Recently named “America’s undisputed king of comedy” by GQ, comedian Louis C.K. surprised many on Monday with a Twitter rant against Common Core and standardized testing. He posted a number of his third-grader’s assignments on Twitter, adding: “My kids used to love math. Now it makes them cry. Thanks standardized testing and common core!”

Though C.K. has faced a number of critics, he doesn’t appear to be backing down. On Wednesday, Twitchy noticed Newsweek’s Alexander Nazaryan’s lengthy Twitter attack on the comedian. It began:

C.K. wasted no time firing back:

Nazaryan acknowledged the joke, adding, “also, I wore a tie with sweater. That clinched it,” before launching into another criticism of C.K. He tweeted:

Still, C.K. wasn’t having any of it:

The argument didn’t end there. The Newsweek writer retorted:

C.K. admitted that he wasn’t at the top of his game three years in but that, unlike Common Core, he wasn’t being imposed on most of the nation:

The comedian added:

The conversation then shifted to the importance of building upon a strong foundation:

Nazaryan continued to write many, many more tweets on the subject, even warning, “If we don’t do this Common Core thing, all of our kids will be stupid: yours, mine, et al.” He also published an article in Newsweek called, “Sorry, Louis C.K., but You’re Wrong About Common Core.”

But C.K. appeared to lose interest in the conversation shortly after the “foundation” exchange.

However, he did tweet a general message to his 3.36 million followers:

C.K. also appeared to encourage fans and others not to attack the Newsweek writer, posting: “i hate about twitter: I tweet, a person tweets a differing opinion, I tweet back, millions of people now s**t on that person.”
